Burundi Kayanza Butanyerera – Natural Processed

Central African Highlands • Volcanic Soil • Single Origin

From the small hillside farms of Kayanza province in northern Burundi, this coffee comes from one of Africa's most promising and lesser-known growing regions. Grown at elevations of 1,700–2,000 meters in mineral-rich volcanic soil, these beans are cultivated almost entirely by smallholder farmers on plots often no larger than a few hundred trees.

Tasting Notes

Vivid and juicy, with bright notes of red berry and black currant leading the cup. A wine-like acidity gives way to hints of citrus and brown sugar sweetness, with a subtle floral undertone in the background. The finish is crisp and lingering, with a complexity that rewards slow sipping.

Why We Love It

Burundi's coffee industry is built almost entirely on smallholder farming — most producers grow just a few hundred trees, hand-tending each one with remarkable care. Cherries are carefully sorted and washed at local stations, a meticulous process that captures the vibrant, fruit-forward character this region is becoming known for. It's a coffee full of potential, from a country still writing its specialty coffee story.
