Our Story
The Duncan Family
Grindstone Coffee is a family business, and family is at the heart of everything we do.
Both sides of our family come from hardworking roots — generations with heritage in Scotland, Austria, Sweden, and Hungary. From day one, our families have worked for everything they have,
and those traditions continue today.
Eric's grandparents and parents were hardworking businesspeople who ranched and logged.
Ana's grandparents and parents are commercial fishermen and Oregon loggers — and still at it
today. Between both families, you'll find construction company owners, fishermen, loggers, pilots,
ranchers, and tradespeople of every kind.
Eric spent his career in construction and aircraft maintenance, including service as a United States Air Force veteran. Ana has been a bookkeeper and controller for construction, timber, and asphalt companies throughout her career.
The values that built our families — hard work, integrity, faith, and responsibility — are the same values that built Grindstone Coffee.

Quality begins long before the beans enter the roaster.
We start by selecting high-quality coffee beans from reputable growing regions around the world.
We work to source coffees that offer outstanding flavor, consistency, and character — while supporting producers who take pride in their craft.
We roast in carefully controlled small batches to bring out the unique qualities of each coffee.
Temperature, airflow, timing, and development are closely monitored throughout the roast to
ensure each batch reaches its full potential. We don't roast coffee for the shelf — we roast coffee for the men and women who are already up before sunrise putting in a hard day's work.
Every batch is roasted with the same commitment to quality, consistency, and craftsmanship that our customers demand every day. Whether it's a dark roast built for early mornings and long
days, or a single-origin coffee showcasing unique regional flavors, every roast is crafted with purpose.
Freshness matters. Coffee is at its best when freshly roasted, which is why we prioritize roasting with freshness in mind rather than producing massive quantities that sit in storage.
